Plastic Jewelry

Alexis Bittar has long been one of my favorite jewelry designers.  He brought "plastic" jewelry back in the form of lucite.  To appreciate his work, here is some background on plastic jewelry.

Some of the first pieces were done in the early 1900's and it was called Celluloid.  It was too thin and heat sensitive so it fell out of fashion due to being impractical.

Etsy
Next came Bakelite, named after Dr. Leo Baekeland.  It is durable and can be made into any shape and color.  Bakelite was sought after for it's low price point during the Depression, but also for it's fine detail which appealed to people with wealth as well.

Alexis Bittar
DuPont created Lucite in the late 1930's.  It is an acrylic resin and is clear in it's original form.  Alexis Bittar works with Lucite, he does have pieces that are clear but his pieces are most recognizable as painted and carved.  His pieces pop with color, texture and happiness!

Fotoshop

Yes Fotoshop, not Photoshop.  This video has gone viral.  It's tagline is "this commercial isn't real, neither are society's standards of beauty."  I LOVE photoshop, it is used in amazing and positive ways.  Photoshopping in magazines has gone crazy, though.  This video is a funny take on what is happening and I think using humor to address anything is a nice approach!

Golden Review

"I have decided to stick with love.  Hate is too great a burden to bear." Martin Luther King, Jr.

Ok, so here are my Golden Globe favorites!

My favorite jewelry was worn by Julianna Margulies.  I loved the odd color combination with her dress...

My favorite makeup was undoubtedly Charlize Theron.  So creamy pinky soft.

My favorite dress was the Theysken's Theory dress worn by Piper Perabo.  This goes against every opinion I've heard so far!  Regardless, I loved the silver lavender shade, the sweet princess silhouette, and she didn't take it too seriously...

I loved so much of the hair this year.  I have always thought that up do's or style up's should always reflect what is current in hair trends.  Hair is more relaxed now.  So many looks were worn down or more relaxed than in the past and I love it!  As hard as it is to pick just one, my favorite is Charlize Theron.  Soft waves, swept low to the side with a headband.  Perfection.  Here are a few more of my favored looks...

Golden

Oh...  I will post more tomorrow!  I am in the middle of Golden Globe heaven!  I am taking in all of the hair, makeup, clothes, and making notes on which movies I need to watch that I haven't yet.  I am taking notes and I will share my hair favorites!

Fashionable Music

Headphones seem to be all the rage right now.  Celebrities and musicians are designing their own lines, they are becoming a fashion statement.  I think it's hilarious and ridiculous and I'm sure I'll be sporting some blinged-out ear buds at the very least...

♂ Hair

When a male client sits in my chair and says, "What options do I have?"  A sorrowful look comes across my face...  My answer is usually, "Well, I could cut it short or keep it long."

There is a bit more to it, but fashion for men seems to last for a few years which leaves fewer choices for men.  In comparison, women's styles change every few months which presents more options.  Here are some current styles I think are great looks for men.

Jason Wu

Daily Mail
Jason Wu is a 30 year old couture designer who began his career designing doll clothes.  He launched his first ready-to-wear line in 2006 with the money he saved from these designs.

Jason Wu is releasing a diffusion line for Target and will be available February 5-March 6.  A diffusion line is a secondary line by a high end designer which retails at a lower price. Target has done an impressive job teaming with designers.  It makes the Target consumer very happy!

The Target line is classic Jason Wu...  Elegant sophistication!
